Blackwood is situated just outside the centre of Camborne, where the shops, library and doctors surgeries can be found. There is easy access to the A30 and the railway station is approximately 1 mile away. The home accommodates up to 44 clients, with one room large enough for a couple. Blackwood is a two storey building. It has a residential area, a thriving day club on the ground floor and an area for clients with dementia on the first floor. The home is bustling and active, with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Whenever possible rooms are redecorated before new clients are admitted, and clients are welcome to choose colours and add their own personal belongings to their room. We have two cats resident at Blackwood. The first is called GW (short for ginger and white-not very original!) and the other is called Bruiser. Bruiser was adopted after his owners were unable to care for him in their own home. Many residents enjoy the company of pets and we will try to accommodate new pets whenever possible, but this will depend on what type of pet (and how well they behave!). The ground floor has a comfortable lounge and a separate dining room. It has easy access to the day club and our spacious garden, so you can choose where you want to be. The upper floor has two lounge/dining rooms for you to choose from, both have views over the garden. The lower floor can be accessed by three stairwells but there is also a lift for those unable to use stairs. Mealtimes are an important part of the day. We offer a choice of meals and special diets are catered for. Mealtimes are flexible and relaxed. Our chef is happy to include your suggestions if you have any special requests. Meals are made with fresh ingredients and wherever possible produce is sourced locally. Families are welcome to join their relatives for meals for which a small charge will be made.

Many of the staff at Blackwood have worked here for a long period of time and Cornwall Care prides itself on the calibre of staff it employs. Over 80% of our care staff have NVQ 2 in care or above and all staff undertake Cornwall Care's, award winning, specialist dementia care training programme. Residents are encouraged to pursue a range of recreational activities, from craft to painting or cookery. Tai Chi and hand massage is provided on alternate weeks and entertainers provide music on a regular basis. The cost of care can cause concern to people, so we always ensure individual assessments are completed before admission. This way we can endeavour to answer all questions and queries before admission. Every client will have their needs reviewed on a regular basis to make sure we get things right for them. If you live locally you may prefer to keep your usual GP. If not we would be happy to register you with one of the local surgeries. General Practitioners, opticians, dentists and chiropodist all attend the home on a regular basis. A hairdresser is available 2 days a week and daily papers and magazines are delivered if requested.
