Woodside is a purpose built resource centre opened in 1983 in Ross-on-Wye. Since December 2006 Woodside has been operating as Day Care Centre, providing 15 day care places 7 days per week. At Woodside the emphasis is on re-ablement, encouraging people to regain some of the skills they may have lost through illness, social isolation or early stage dementia, and to provide an opportunity to give carers a break for the day, thus helping people to stay out of long term residential care. Experienced staff provide this valuable service supported by other community healthcare professionals who visit according to individual needs and requests and the centre has specially equipped bathrooms and toilets and various special aids enabling client’s needs to be met within a safe and comfortable surroundings.

Moving into residential or nursing care can be a difficult decision but is often necessary for older people who can no longer manage on their own or with the help of relatives, friends or other carers. But in Shaw care homes our friendly professional staff are trained to make the transition hassle free and ensure that independence and the key components of daily living are maintained as much as possible. We aim to provide you with choices - over your personal care, what and when you eat, whether you want some peace and quiet or to join in a range of social activities. All this is provided in homely and comfortable surroundings - and with your own private bedroom. There are two types of care home, those which provide personal care only and those which also provide nursing care. All homes provide meals, laundry service and personal care such as help with washing, dressing, general mobility and day-to-day tasks. Nursing homes provide all of these services but additionally they employ registered, trained nurses who are able to provide health-related care. Government assistance with the cost of this nursing care is available to everyone and is not means-tested.
