Durlands Road is a detached property in the Horndean area, offering registered residential accommodation for four individuals with a learning disability and additional needs. The people living at Durlands Road are all men who enjoy an active lifestyle.

There are two house vehicles to facilitate getting out and about locally and further afield. The people living at Durlands Road enjoy busy days filled with opportunities such as football, trampolining, days out and much more.

The people living at Durlands Road have a variety of communication needs and different communication tools are used to support individuals to make their wishes known and take control of their lives. The guys at Durlands Road have a great sense of humour and enjoy having a laugh.

Each individual is encouraged to be as independent as possible and help to look after their home.

Our Staff

The staff team at Durlands Road are very positive and encouraging, motivating each person to develop their skills and have a fulfilling and active lifestyle. Social opportunities and positive relationships with friends and family are also actively promoted.

The staff team are trained to support the wide range of interests of the people living in the home as well as the additional needs associated with learning disabilities, communication needs, epilepsy and autism. In addition the staff team have also been trained in NVCI (non violent crises intervention), Pica and MAKATON to meet individuals’ needs.

The home manager has a wealth of knowledge and experience in working with individuals with learning disabilities, mental health needs and forensic backgrounds and in supporting individuals with behavioural needs. The home manager has also completed NVQ level 4 and RMA in Social Care and also has a Post Graduation Certificate in managing Health and Social Care along with RSA Counselling qualification.

Our Environment

The layout of Durlands Road offers a large open plan lounge and dining room with access into the back garden from the dining room. The separate activity/games room leading off from the dining room with separate access into the garden can also be used as a separate area to meet with family and friends. The large kitchen also offers a breakfast bar area and access to the back garden via a pathway along the side of the home.

All the bedrooms at Durlands Road have en-suite shower facilities and the home also offers a separate bathroom for those who prefer to have a bath. One bedroom is located on the ground floor and the other three bedrooms are upstairs, along with a further bedroom being used for a sleep in. Individuals living at Durlands Road are encouraged to decorate their bedrooms in their choice of colours and to make their rooms personalised.

Our Location

Durlands Road is set in a residential area in Horndean. The home is a short walking distance from a local parade of shops and the bus stop. The local football club is only down the road and the home is a short bus trip away from local colleges.   The A3 motorway being on the doorstep of the home offers easy access to larger cities such as London and Southampton. Portsmouth city is a short drive from the home with Gunwharf Quays offering a variety of shops, bars and restaurant and the Harbour which has ferry trips to the Isle of Wight.
