Combs Court provides a service for 29 people with learning disabilities.

Overview of service

We offer a 24 hour service which is geared to meeting the needs of each individual, we do this by person centred planning and making sure that the people we support are involved in making decisions about how the service provided.

The service is split into different areas, these include 3 shared houses for 8 people, 1 shared flat for 2 people and 4 individual bungalows.

The service works with a maximum ratio of 1 staff to 5 individuals although at most times this is considerably less as a number of people have dedicated 1:1 packages to enable them to undertake specific activities.

What it's like to live here

People who live in the service have a wide variety of opportunities to choose from in order to occupy themselves for example.

The service operates a 5 day per week day service on site offering social opportunities as well as more formal sessions such as ASDAN courses.

A number of people access Work placements such as working at a local college.

People are encouraged to take part in local community events, as such a number of people attend afternoon and evening social clubs and events.

People are regularly involved in cooking within their area of the home assisting with preparing meals or baking cakes etc.

Alternatively people are able to relax in their own space reading or undertaking hobbies if they choose

Surroundings

The service is located in a residential area close to local shops and facilities, these are no more than 2 minutes walk away.

The service is less than a mile away from the centre of the local town which offers a full range of shops and services including church, library, cinema, leisure centre with swimming pool and various sports clubs.

There is a regular bus service to Ipswich which stops at the bottom of the driveway and the local mainline station is a mile away on the edge of town.

Service facilities

The service is set in large grounds laid mainly to garden and grass with each individual unit having its own garden area with room for BBQ, garden seating etc.

The majority of the service is single storey accommodation which leads to easy access for wheelchairs or people with mobility problems.

All people have their own bedroom which they are free to personalise to their own taste any requests can be discussed at any time.

The service has access to 2 vehicles, a minibus and a people carrier which are available to assist people with their transport needs.
