At Levitt Mill and Barn we provide support for people with autism, learning disabilities and challenging behaviour and our goal is to support everyone to live as independently as possible. We do this by encouraging and supporting people to develop their daily living and social skills in a safe and homely environment. Levitt Mill and Barn is welcoming, friendly and very person centred.

Overview of Service

Levitt Mill and Barn supports people with autism, learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. Our dedicated and friendly staff provide 24 hour support and the level of support provided is entirely dependent on individuals' needs.

Everyone is involved in designing their own Person Centred Plan, with staff support. The plans are tailored to individual needs and provide the correct level of support required. They also enable people to make their own choices about the support they receive. We encourage and support everyone at Levitt Mill and Barn to recognise and identify their goals and ambitions and how they would like to go about achieving them.

Levitt Mill and Barn promotes Craegmoor's communication strategy "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service.

What it's Like to Live Here

There are a wide range of activities to get involved with at Levitt Mill and Barn, both in and out of the service. These activities are chosen and organised by everyone living here.

We encourage and support everyone to get involved in leisure activities and where possible, educational activities, in the local community. At Levitt Mill and Barn we encourage individuals to access the local village centre and nearby town and city facilities, such as the library, leisure centre, cinema and shopping centre.

People living at Levitt Mill and Barn learn how to develop positive domestic skills such as using a washing machine, tidying their rooms, putting away clothes and preparing their own meals. Individuals also participate in activities such as playing games and arts and crafts.

Some people also enjoy preparing for birthday parties and festive occasions such as Easter, Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas.

Surroundings

Levitt Mill and Barn is a listed building with its own unique history. It is situated in the centre of its own grounds in a peaceful woodland setting at the side of a small stream, on the outskirts of a local village. From our grounds we have direct access into the local countryside and can walk to Roche Abbey, a local tourist attraction. A short walk leads to a paddock belonging to Levitt Mill and Barn, where some local people keep their horses.

Service Facilities

Levitt Mill and Barn is made up of 2 buildings, each with a kitchen, a laundry room, 2 lounges and a dining room. There are 11 bedrooms all with en-suite facilities and individuals are encouraged and supported to personalise their bedrooms. There is a wet room in the Barn. The Barn also has a multi-sensory room.

Around the Mill there are large patio areas of decorative local York stone and also a large, relaxing and peaceful garden. It is a great place to watch local wildlife and to have parties and BBQs in the summer.
