The Red House provides 24 hour support for people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. We aim to enable all individuals to make their own choices about the support they receive. We do everything we can to improve the health and wellbeing of the individuals we support and as a team we are focused on building positive outcomes for everyone.

    Overview of Service

The Red House provides 24 hour support for people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. The support is delivered by a dedicated Multi Disciplinary Team of staff who aim to enable individuals to live as independently as possible. The staff also work closely with outside agencies and visiting consultants.

We encourage and support everyone at The Red House to recognise and identify their goals and ambitions and how they would like to go about meeting them.

The Red House promotes Craegmoor's communication strategy, "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service. This is extended to a voice at area, divisional and national level.

What it's Like to Live Here

All individuals at The Red House benefit from the many activities available within the service and its scenic surroundings. Everyone helps to choose and plan the activities they would like to do.

The people that we support are encouraged through their Person Centred Plans to achieve their goals and aspirations. For some people this means attending college to access various courses, including cooking, art and daily living skills. For others it means work placements and other day opportunities in line with their goals.

Within the house we continually and consistently promote the development of social skills, independent living and personal responsibility. This includes daily skills such as shopping, cooking, doing laundry and cleaning, and tasks are dependent upon an individual's ability. The people who live here are very proud of their home as they have so much involvement in creating it.

    Surroundings

The Red House is situated in the picturesque village of Ruspidge in the heart of the Forest of Dean. It is 1 mile from Cinderford town centre and there are local shops and pubs within walking distance.

There are many opportunities for scenic walks, picnics and bike rides within a woodland setting. There are fishing lakes and many tourist sites to visit, providing a wide range of activities to fill the days.

    Service Facilities

The atmosphere at the service is relaxed, and is focused around individuals' involvement; as they make the decisions that affect their home. Each person has their own bedroom, many of which include washing facilities. Everyone is encouraged and supported to personalise their bedrooms.
