The main building is a fine house built for an eighteenth century Mayor of Hastings, standing in its own grounds. Two extensions built in the 1980s and 1990s provide three quarters of the residents rooms. There are fine views from the house, which is located in the village-like Hastings Old Town. There are 45 single rooms, all with en-suite toilet facilities. The rooms vary in size but are all within the guidelines set out by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). There is also a cottage in the grounds which has two self contained flats which provide sheltered accommodation (the occupants take their meals in the House and have access to all the facilities). The rooms are arranged over three floors with lift access to each floor. There are two Lounges, three Dining Rooms and a Conservatory, a treatment room, a small shop, a hair salon and a large well equipped laundry. The grounds are laid out as a pleasure garden and there are two patio areas. Public transport is only a short walk away and the main town of Hastings is also within walking distance.

There are 55 staff under the direction of the Manager and all care staff have appropriate vocational qualifications. Staff turnover is very low. All residents have a 'key worker'; a member of the Care Staff, who will help residents attend to their personal needs, shopping etc. Visitors are welcome at any time and family is encouraged to be involved with residents care. Residents may furnish their rooms with some items of their own furniture, provided that they comply with Fire Safety Standards, and with personal effects. All residents are offered a choice of meals on a daily basis, three meals are served each day as well as morning coffee and afternoon tea. There are also five tea corners for residents to make their own refreshments and light snacks. Various 'in house' activities take place regularly including a monthly residents meeting, coffee morning and lunch club. There is a hairdresser and chiropodist who visit residents at the Home. A minibus is used for weekly trips to places of interest. All laundry is washed on the premises. There is CCTV covering all entrances to ensure the safety of all residents. Pastoral Care Old Hastings House caters for the religious and cultural needs of the residents. Church of England Communion Service is held once a fortnight. There is a Sunday service each week which covers most denominations. There are Roman Catholic and Anglican parish churches within two hundred yards.
