Rivelin House is a nursing service which provides care and support to eight individuals with a learning disability, physical disability and associated complex needs.

Rivelin House is a nursing service which provides care and support to eight individuals with a learning disability, physical disability and associated complex needs.

The people living at Rivelin House cover a varied age group and all have very different needs. These include epilepsy, autism, dementia, PKU, sleep apnoea, challenging behaviour and physical needs. Each individual’s needs are specifically met through training, care plans and a person centred plan approach. Each individual receives support from social and healthcare professionals, as needed.

We have a learning disability nurse manager, who has over 20 years experience within the learning disability field, as well as a learning disability nurse team, with support from a nurse bank team. The efficient running of the service is due to our team of dedicated, trained and friendly support workers.

The service is situated in Shiregreen in Sheffield, a short walk from shops and local facilities. Service users are encouraged and supported to take part in a variety of activities. The Sheffield area offers many opportunities for activities, including bowling, football, going to cinemas, theatres and pubs and visiting local attractions such as Heeley City Farm, Beauchief Abbey and Magna Science Adventure Centre.

Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley are all within twenty minutes drive, providing even more opportunities to access community based activities. There are also various education opportunities available in the Sheffield area, offering many different courses. Service users are given the choice of going on an annual holiday, either individually or as part of a group.

Rivelin House is adapted to meet the needs of all the people who live there. It is colourful and decorated in a way to make it feel welcoming, warm and homely. All the bedrooms have an en-suite shower room and up to date furnishings and decor, which can be changed to suit an individual’s personal style, interests, hobbies and favourite colours.

There is overhead tracking in six of the eight rooms, to assist people who have difficulties with getting in and out of the bath or onto the bed. All staff are fully trained in using this equipment and will work in pairs for health and safety reasons. The service has spacious shared areas, including a dining area, a lounge/music room and a large kitchen.

The service has a self contained flat with its own kitchen, a living/dining area and a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. The flat has a private garden, as well as access to the communal garden, which has a decked area suitable for wheelchair users.
