The Birches is a new specialised service developed to support the specialist mental health support needs of service users aged 18 years and upward. The service is designed to assist in the slow integration and rehabilitation back into the community. The service incorporates a more independent two bedroomed rehabilitation area.

What it's like to live here

The Birches is a large detached House. It has 5 individual en suite bedrooms with full disabled access to the ground floor. There is a large kitchen with separate utility and dining rooms. There is a large lounge and availability of a bath for those who would prefer this option to a shower.

There is also a two bedroomed more independent flat area with its own kitchen diner area and bathroom suite. The service is near to the centre of the market town of chesterfield and within short commuting distances to the cities of Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby. The town has numerous leisure facilities and an excellent shopping arena. The area has a good public transport network.

The service is close to Chesterfield college which subject to suitability; all individuals would have the opportunity of attending to enhance their skills development. The service will offer regular internal and external activities, but these will all be done through agreement of all those involved.

Service facilities

The Birches will focus on providing innovative therapeutic treatment and support to each person on an individual basis. People living at The Birches will be given both the support and encouragement to live as independently as possible and set attainable targets. All individuals will have the opportunity to join in weekly house meetings and be offered individual support sessions to discuss areas of development that they would like to focus on.

Everyone will be involved in the development of their own person centred plan – detailing their goals and ambitions and how they will go about achieving these. Individuals will be encouraged to take as much responsibility as they can accept, and this will increase as they progress through the service. Ranging from managing their own finances and medications to joint management of the budget for house shopping for the two bedroomed flat areas.

The service at the Birches will work towards achieving positive outcomes for the individual through a pathway back into independent living.
