Victoria House is a modern, single storey purpose built care home which opened in Rushden in 2008 and provides residential care for 47 elderly residents including people with dementia. Victoria House offers trained staff on hand 24 hours a day. Shaw healthcare endorse training whole heartedly, employing dedicated training professionals that up-date staff training constantly to stay in line with governmental policies concerning care. All new employees are taken through a personal induction, tailored to their specific role. Three of the six bedded wings at Victoria House are dedicated to those suffering with dementia. These wings have been carefully and tastefully decorated to offer an environment that is calming, friendly and above all safe. Quiet meaningful seating areas from the main corridors allow residents extra individual resting spaces away from their own room. Signage throughout is prominent to eliminate untimely distress and confusion. We incorporate the use of flashcards and items of memorabilia to promote healthy memories.

Moving into residential or nursing care can be a difficult decision but is often necessary for older people who can no longer manage on their own or with the help of relatives, friends or other carers. But in Shaw care homes our friendly professional staff are trained to make the transition hassle free and ensure that independence and the key components of daily living are maintained as much as possible. We aim to provide you with choices over your personal care, what and when you eat, whether you want some peace and quiet or to join in a range of social activities. All this is provided in homely and comfortable surroundings and with your own private bedroom. There are two types of care home, those which provide personal care only and those which also provide nursing care. All homes provide meals, laundry service and personal care such as help with washing, dressing, general mobility and day to day tasks. Nursing homes provide all of these services but additionally they employ registered, trained nurses who are able to provide health related care. Government assistance with the cost of this nursing care is available to everyone and is not means tested.
